Winsham Village is situated right on the Somerset/Dorset border and only 4 miles from the Devon border. A little to the east Crewkerne has a direct rail link to London Waterloo. To the South is the lively market town of Bridport, West Bay fishing harbour and beach, and the dramatic Jurassic coast. There are lots of wonderful coastal walks and good beaches with Lyme Regis only 12 miles to the South.
The renowned Forde Abbey gardens are only 1 mile away and National Trust properties Barrington Court, Montacute and Lytes Cary are within easy reach. Mapperton House and Gardens are just outside the small, attractive town of Bearninster and both are well worth a visit.
For 'foodies', there are plenty of good places to eat in the vicinity. Including the Hix Oyster & Fish House in Lyme, The Lord Poulett Arms in Hinton St George, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage in Axminster, and The Wild Garlic and Bridge House Hotel in Beaminster. If you fancy sampling the local cider and seeing how it's made take a trip to Perry's Cider Mills — only 6 miles away.
Wnsham itself is an attractive village in the beautiful Axe Valley. The pub serves lunches and evening meals every day. There is also an excellent private eatery in the village where you can eat by prior arrangement (£15.00 per head and take your own wine). Please ask for details. There is a beautiful parish church and an excellent community shop with a post office.
